Tribal Textures

whitneyside2

I did a fashion show in Lenoir NC a couple of years ago with my friend who let me do whatever I wanted so I went tribal with texture. I embossed all the hair above the parietal ridge, while splitting the hair below into three separate braids. To make sure the braids held their texture I put Matrix Volume Builder Mouse on the hair before and during braiding. When the braids were completely dry, I ran a flat iron over the braids to make sure they held their pattern. Remember when we use heat we are breaking the hydrogen bonds in the hair to reform the hairs natural state into the one we are trying to achieve (curl, crimp, etc). If you allow the hair to cool in the same shape as it was heated the bonds will fully reform in that shape and therefore sustain the shape for longer periods of time. Once the braids were cooled, I gently separated the braids with my fingers for less frizz. I heavily brushed the hair that was embossed to make sure I got the most volume in the crown of the hair. I then secured the front fringe to crown with gold hair clips for a tribal feel. I loved this look, even the second day wear of this look with all the texture allowed the model to do some great braids/styles. Stay tuned for more models from this show!

“E tu Brabis?”

image image This is my try at an online tutorial! I saw it and loved it. I wanted a messier version than what they showed.I used some texture builder from the Matrix Style link line to make the hair messier and texturized.

To recreate this look style the hair on your natural part. Pull back a small section of hair from both sides of the face, and secure in a pony tail holder at the back of the head tightly. Flip this small pony tail partly under so that you can spilt the pony tail into a heart shape above the holder leaving the remainder of the hair below the holder in loose fall. Repeat as many times until you run out of hair, or create desired look. I finished the hair off with a double strand knot bun at the bottom.  I found some great ideas at this website so I thought I would share!

Matrix SOBOOST Model

My newest color model is displaying new SOBOOST Color Additions from Matrix. I used 4RV+ on her new growth with Red SOBOOST and Copper SOBOOST for her ombre. What beautiful rich colors were achieved using the new SOBOOST color additions. The SOBOOST range can be used alone or in conjunction with both SOCOLOR and COLORSYNC lines from Matrix to enhance/neutralize any color.

This was the first time I had ever used the SOBOOST color additions, and the result was fantastic. I used them alone to see how vibrant they would be so I will now know exactly how they will brighten my SOCOLOR and COLORSYNC formulas.

Knit-Bomb Headband

I hand knitted this headband with extensions for this shoot to create something new. It was extremely hard, but if you have patience and can knit go for it! As you all know I like to do a few crazy things every once in a while just to keep you all entertained. Let me know what you think! I used an embossing iron to enhance her texture for plenty of body. Creating almost a beehive style in the back.

What do you do when your client wants a change…and not a small change. A LIFE CHANGING CHANGE? You say yes of course (as long as her hair is healthy enough and you both have the time to achieve her desired look). I love using my artistic side so this challenge was one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it as well.

DSC02290  This was my client when she first walked in….I had alot of work on my hands to turn her into the “Phoenix”. I had to hand pick out her low lights, and her new growth and reverse ombre her hair to get it to look like this. I used different formulas of Matrix Light Master and VLight to achieve the healthy blondes you see below.

DSC02295 You can see reverse ombre means the lightest part of the hair is at the new growth of the hair while it gradually gets darker to a medium blonde at her ends. Her Occipital region I kept her natural level 6 for the final coloring stage as seen below.

Using the new Matrix Color Graphics Yellow, Orange and Magenta. I was able to Ombre everything above the Occipital from a yellow to a gradual Orange. I used the Magenta on the Occipital region for the contrast. Since Matrix Color Graphics is a Semi Permanent color you can see how shiny and healthy her hair is, even after all the chemical changes we did on her hair. I LOVE MY MATRIX. Stay tuned for more Mere’s Hair 🙂

So hopefully this will not be the first and only time your seeing this image…I am going to try to submit it and see what happens. Who’s with me on this? Please leave your opinions and comments….lets just say they two views don’t do the “doo” justice ;-). I handmade this headpiece out of silver beads, chiffon, and a sholderpad.

Updating an old dress by adding embellishments is the way to look great and save lots of cash! All it takes is a little imagination. The hair style is “wand waved” in the crown section with tight Marcell curls pinned up to the side. I wanted her to resemble the model from Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”. So go try updating an old look with new additions yourself.

I loved this style…and since It has finally been sent off for review for the magazine American Stylist I can now show it to the world! This was all the model’s natural hair that has been crimped in specific pieces and pinned into curls all over the back of the head. I used Vavoom Finishing Hair Spray for a stronger hold and shine!

Love-Lights

I had a client come in today wanting a complete change from her 1N colored hair. After a base adjustment with 30V V-lite, I slice highlighted her crown to a level 6. I dried her hair and applied So-Color HD-RV to the pre-lightened hair.

Keys and Cogs

Using unique hair accessories can make or break your style. Make sure you don’t over do the hair jewelry …remember “classy not trashy”

These clips were hand made for my styling and truly accentuate this style,  by drawing your eye to its shape. You can dress up any simple style with the right hair accessory.
